China Programs

The International Judicial Academy (IJA) has long standing relationship with our partners in China. We remain committed to the further professionalization and specialization of programs that serve the Chinese legal community and public common interest.

LL.M. Elite Education Program

法律硕士精英教育项目(“预科+学位+实习"三合一项目)

This program, the International Judicial Academy LL.M. Elite Education Program, is designed for Chinese law students and lawyers who plan to pursue the LL.M. degree in the U.S. The Program has four components: program admission, preparatory courses, degree program, and internship.

Program Application

IJA's Selection Committee will select applicants for the Elite Program based on their academic merits, and recommend them to U.S. law schools before or after the applicants complete their preparatory courses.

Preparatory Courses

Students enrolled in the Elite Program will first participate in a series of preparatory courses taught by American law professors, practicing attorneys and other legal scholars in China or in the U.S. before their degree program. The preparatory courses will last for approximately four weeks and cover American civics, including a basic course in the U.S. legal system; courses that emphasizes skills needed for success in U.S. law schools, including legal research, legal reasoning, legal writing, and legal recitation, and a course providing introductions to major legal concepts and principles in certain areas of U.S. substantive law.

LL.M. Degree Program

Upon completion of the preparatory program, students will report to their respective law schools for their LL.M. study. The following U.S. law schools have signed agreements with IJA to accept students from the Elite program:

- University of Illinois College of Law

- Stetson University College of Law

- University of Richmond School of Law

- Charlotte School of Law

Internship

Before or soon after graduation from the LL.M. degree program, students can request IJA's advice and assistance in finding legal area internship opportunities in the U.S. and the IJA will provide such advice and assistance. Possible internships include those in courts and with judges, in law firms, and in the legal departments of state and federal government agencies.

Junior Judges Program

青年法官项目

The Young Judges Internship program is designed for Chinese law students currently enrolled in law schools in China at undergraduate level and graduate level. The purpose of this program is for the Chinese law students to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the U.S. legal system, especially the judicial system. A typical program usually lasts for about three weeks. The students will spend the first week at in DC area attending lectures at IJA and law firms, and visiting courts, prosecutors' office, public defender's office, legal aid organizations, etc. Then they will spend the rest of the program in federal and state courts to observe court administration in different divisions, such as pre-trial services and jury duty management office, and observe trials. All of their activities at the courts will be supervised and mentored by judges.

This program is conducted through collaboration with different Chinese law schools. So far, IJA has successfully hosted such programs for students from East China University of Political Science and Law, and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. We welcome more Chinese law schools to join this program.

Advanced Executive Education Program

高级管理人员专业培训项目

IJA has been providing advanced executive education programs for more than 500 Chinese legal professionals since 2004. Our trainees include judges, prosecutors, lawyers and legal scholars. All of our executive education programs are custom designed to fit the specific interest of each group. Program areas include intellectual property, judicial administration, judicial publications, international trade arbitration and mediation, sentencing, environmental law, maritime law, and international collaboration.

IJA was selected by the Supreme People's Court of P.R. China to host its training programs for elite judges three years in a row. All of our executive education programs are funded or approved by State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA), P. R. China.
